FINE ART FOR SALE: ABSTRACT BY NATURE

As much as I enjoy making literal pictures of nature, I also enjoy to let my imagination play and experiment with abstractions of various subjects in nature.

This body of work was produced over three years between 2005 to 2008 where I experimented extensively with employing camera movement and zoom techniques during exposure as well as layering two different exposures. This series of 12 prints is the sum of those experiments.

The 'Abstract by Nature' series is available in limited size editions as outlined below. Prices are for gallery-wrapped canvas prints ready to hang.

Small: 30 x 46cm (12 x 18") - 25 prints - A$125.00

Medium: 41 x 61cm (16 x 24") - 15 prints - A$195.00

Large: 61 x 91cm (24 x 36") - 8 prints - A$395.00

Xlarge: 81 x 122cm (32 x 48") - 2 prints - A$795.00

A total of no more than 50 limited edition prints (limited further in number per size) of each image will ever be produced and sold worldwide (note: for some images artist proofs of about 1-5 prints of each image might exist outside of the edition). Editions will be numbered 1/50, 2/50 etc. up to 50/50.

'Abstract by Nature' prints are only available as fine art canvas prints. All prints are printed on the finest American-made archival, acid-free matte canvas recognized as the world's leading fine art canvas and used in well-known galleries and museums around the world.

There are times where a subject can transfix the photographer. This was one of those times. Looking through the viewfinder I felt as if I was looking into another world. I found this leaf with lots of tiny holes caused by insects in a garden bed in the middle of the urban jungle of Darling Harbour in Sydney. It was a rainy day and the wind invited me to experiment with long exposures. At first glimpse these dead branches looked dull, dry, grey and messy, suitable perhaps only for fire wood. At second glimse, contrasted against the red lichen on a granite rock, the branches appeared to form an intriguing abstract pattern set against beautiful warm tones. As I walked back from one of many walking trips at this nature reserve I decided to try a long exposure while I walked down this path. I was positively surprised by the results. A very messy path in the bush was transformed into something simple, impressionistic and slightly mysterious.
